Sessions Recap

Government Affairs: Current Issues to Keep You in the Know

Edward Noyer, director of product marketing, Parasec

In July 2013 the amendment to the Uniform Commercial Code will begin to be enacted into law.  The biggest changes will center on how to determine debtor names. The new code is fraught with pitfalls. What do you and your clients need to know now to better position your filings for the future?

Jeff Speredelozzi, president, Precision Corporate Services Inc.

A discussion of the inner workings of the NPRRA Government Affairs Committee by review of our primary objectives and methods, with a look to how the committee can best serve members of the association going forward. We hit upon some subjects that always generate lively debate, such as where and to what degree we should focus our resources, followed by a brief recap and discussion of a few of the important legislative initiatives that we are currently following and how they may affect us down the road.

“Power” - Commit to Alter Your Views to Develop a Competitive Edge

Julio Garreaud, founder, Human Architecture

Garreaud taught us how to go from good to great! You must “change how you think” and educate yourself and your staff. He emphasized training and noted that planning for the future is nothing without action; so make an Action Plan and coordinate your efforts.  “You don’t know it, if you don’t do it… If you will do it, then you will know it!”

Social Media: Face It… You Need It!

Sue Ann Kern, president, Face It, Inc.

Kern spoke about many different social media sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) and taught 10 ways to make them work for you. These ways included creating your profile and using the right picture to customizing it to make it stand out. She also gave us ideas on how to create events and shared rules to follow when profiling your company and yourself.

Using the Cloud for Document Delivery: Google Docs leads the way to affordable web-based document storage & delivery

Bill Stokes, chief executive officer at Standard Corporate Services

Stokes described and demonstrated how documents can be sent through the Google Docs system and stored for future reference.  The system is both easy to use and affordable.  Stokes also made some predictions for the future of our industry. They were as follows:

  • By 2019:  Most business transactions or information inquiries will involve dealing with a simulated person on a cloud compute.
  • By 2024:  Most service companies would have more computers as employees than humans.

To back up his predictions, Bill sent a follow-up email regarding the new iPhone by Apple. They are introducing their first simulated person named "Siri." This clearly shows that 2019 is closer than you think!

You and Your Business – Mastering the Basics

Alan Kovitz, chief executive officer and founding partner, Elevations Unlimited LLC

Do you have a vision? Can you see, hear, taste, feel and smell it? Are your goals SMART goals - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistically high & Time Bound?

“If we fail to plan, we plan to fail.” These are some of the messages Kovitz showcased in his powerful presentation.
